MARA HANDLER,

ALMFT

Mara utilizes her warmth and curiosity to foster a safe space for clients to explore themselves and grow. From a young age, she has been deeply attuned to the emotions of others. She feels that this allows her to thoughtfully approach her clients in a way that aligns with their unique outlook on life. Mara understands the vulnerabilities that come with seeking professional help, and is honored to have the opportunity to be a part of her client’s lives. She hopes that her empathy, humor, and kindness will bring comfort to her clients and encourage honest communication.

Mara’s approach to therapy is client-centered, strength-based, and collaborative. She truly believes that clients are the experts of their own lives, and that their thoughts, opinions, and hypotheses are incredibly important to the therapeutic process. She tailors the therapeutic experience to meet each person’s unique needs and allow them to grow at their own pace.

Mara’s experience working with a diverse population of children and adults has inspired her passion to treat all parts of the family unit. She appreciates the role that her clients’ unique cultural, familial, and social contexts play in forming their identity, and leads with curiosity and humility rather than making assumptions. Her clinical interests include expanding personal and emotional awareness, repairing strained relationships, helping children and families navigate life transitions, and developing effective communication skills. Mara also works with clients experiencing anxiety and depression, and those impacted by trauma.

Mara earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Child Psychology at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She then graduated from Adler University with a Master’s degree in Couple and Family Therapy. Her career goals include helping to minimize the stigma around seeking support for mental health and making therapeutic resources more accessible for all populations.
